The government has declared seven wards of Kanchanpur as disaster prone areas. After the delay in the construction of the guide bond (dam) on the Mahakali River which was destroyed by last year's flood, the meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee recommended to the Ministry of Home Affairs to declare the Mahakali Bridge, the access road to the bridge and the surrounding settlements as a disaster prone area.
According to the recommendation of the District Disaster Management Committee, the Cabinet meeting has decided to declare Bhimdatta Municipality Ward No. 11, 12, 13 and Dodhara Chandni Municipality Ward No. 3, 8, 9, 10 as disaster prone areas for three months. Chief District Officer of Kanchanpur, Laxman Dhakal, said that although the area has been declared a disaster-prone area, no information has been received from the higher authorities about how to work in that area.
Bhupendrasinh Rawal, the Ward President of Bhimdatta Municipality Ward 12, said that he got the information that the Nepali Army will work after the declaration of the disaster-prone area. 'There is a lot of risk of flooding here.
In August last year, the flood that occurred in the Mahakali river destroyed the guidebund (dam) of the pond that was being constructed along with the four-lane bridge built on the Mahakali river. Due to the lack of variation of the guide bond, the reconstruction has not been possible. Initially, a design was made to use large stones for the construction of the guide bond. But after not getting big stones, a design was made to make a guide bond by filling stones in concrete and wire mesh. But since the design was approved late, there has been no variation so far. Since there is no
variation, the bridge construction company has prepared to break the contract. Engineer Kishore Pandey of the construction company Kumar Shrestha CFEC JV informed that the contract was being terminated after not being able to work for a long time. "We have not been able to work for a year and we are preparing to break the contract rather than being stuck," he said. We could not work because there was no variation, there was no working environment.'
2700 meters long and 600 meters wide ponds are under construction on both sides of the 800 meter bridge built on the Mahakali river. 95 percent of the work including concrete bridge, access road and guide bond has been completed. Now only 200 meters of access road black paper and guide bond work is left. In 2074, an agreement was signed with Kumar Shrestha CFEC JV for three billion 27 million rupees to be built within 3 years.
