It has been more than a year since the Mahakali bridge project was stopped. There is no preparation to resume work yet. In August last year, the flood in the Mahakali river destroyed the guide bund of the pond being constructed along with the bridge. The guide bond has also not been rebuilt due to lack of variation. If the guide bond is not constructed immediately, there is a risk that the settlements of Bhimdatta Municipality 12 and 13 along with the access road of the bridge will be at risk.

Durga Awasthi, engineer of the Mahakali bridge project, said, "The construction company was not able to work in this financial year, neither did the variation, nor did the construction company get the environment to work."

The length of the four-lane concrete bridge built on the Mahakali river is 800 meters. The width of the river in that area is about 3 km . On both sides of the bridge built in the middle of the river, ponds of 6/6 hundred meters width and 28/28 hundred meters length are being constructed . 

Initially, a design was made to use large stones for the construction of the guide bond. But after not getting a big stone, a design was made to make a guide bond by filling concrete and wire mesh with stones. But since the design was approved late, there has been no variation till now. After last year's flood destroyed the guide bond, there is also a discussion about changing the design. 

If the rains don't start soon, it will be possible to work on the river for a month at most. Now the bridge project is working to change the course of the river . In addition, the district disaster management committee meeting has decided to demand the government to declare the area as a crisis.

'Keeping in mind the imminent risk, we have sent to the center for a disaster declaration,' Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal said, 'The guide bond has to be made, the river channelization also has to be done, that too within a month, that's why we hope that some decision will be made from above.' Kishor Pandey, engineer of construction company Kumar Shrestha CFEC JV, said that they are getting confused because they are not able to work for a long time.

The construction company has already sent a letter to the bridge project office and the road department to break the contract. We reached from the department to the Ministry and the Prime Minister saying that we could not do the work, we had to do the variation, but nothing happened,' said Engineer Pandey. He promised to return to Kathmandu immediately and carry out the necessary work from the variation to the construction process. But so far no process has been able to proceed . 

In order to connect Dodhara Chandni Municipality of Mahakalipari with the road network and to build a dry port, the construction work of about 8 kilometers of 6-lane road along with a four-lane bridge has started in 2074 . Although there is a contract to complete the work within three years, the work has not been completed until now due to lack of budget and sometimes due to technical reasons.
