Tree felling for dry port at Dodhara Chandni has started

Tree felling work has started for the dry port to be built in Mahakalipari Dodhara Chandni Municipality. Tree felling work has started in Mayapuri Community Forest in Dodhara Chandni Municipality-1.

The Intermodal Transport Development Committee has started the work of cutting trees through the contract process. Ashish Gajurel, executive director of the Intermodal Transport Development Committee, said that according to the same contract, the work of tree felling started last week. According to him, work is being done to cut the trees within two months. "The land can be cleared for construction within the next two months after cutting the trees," Gajurel said, "India has also said that the contract process is in progress, and we will also clear the land when the contract process is over." "Tree felling is being done in Rohbar of the park," he said, "but as soon as the tree felling started, there has been some delay due to the transfer of the staff from the park." According to the agreement, 1 thousand 593 trees will be cut in the Mayapuri community forest. For the dry port itself, access roads to both Nepal and India are under construction. On the Nepal side, a 6-lane access road has been constructed from Gaddachouki to Malaria Nala along with a four-lane concrete bridge over the Mahakali river. The access road from the Chakkarpur area of the National Highway to India is also under construction. India has also advanced the contract process for the construction of the dry port. Executive Director Gajurel said that it is currently in the evaluation stage.

According to the DPR of the dry port to be built with the full investment of the Government of India, administrative buildings, warehouses, customs, security, quarantine houses and load and unload sheds will be constructed.

According to the agreement with India, the work of the dry port will be completed within three years from the start of construction. It is estimated that it will cost about 6 billion. Initially, the government of Nepal planned to build a special economic zone along with a dry port and an integrated check post. For that, the land of Mayapuri Community Forest had to be acquired along with Gaurishankar.

There was a plan to acquire about 300 bighas of land from the local people. But now, as only the integrated check post will be built, it is seen that only 25 hectares of Mayapuri Community Forest land will be required.
