Chairman of Social Development Committee Dharmaraj Pathak has said that the fifth action plan of human rights will be included in the policies and programs of Sudurpaschim Province.
He made this commitment at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) workshop of Human Rights jointly organized by INSEC and Orec Nepal in Dhangadhi. The program was held to discuss the report prepared by the non-governmental organizations under the fourth phase of UPR.
Pathak said that the legal implementation of human rights is challenging and the action plan of the National Human Rights Commission should be included in the policy program for the next financial year 082-83. He said that there is a need for discussion between the Social Development Committee, the National Human Rights Commission and the stakeholders.
INSEC Sudurpaschim Coordinator Khadakraj Joshi informed that a workshop was organized to cover the topics and suggestions missing in the report. Mejakan Shrestha from INSEC Center gave a presentation on UPR's recommendations and international obligations. Similarly, Vidya Chapagai, advisor of INSEC, informed about the process, recommendation and implementation of UPR. The participants in the
program suggested that recognition of same-sex marriage, change of citizenship, re-establishment of inter-caste marriage, birth registration of children without parents and issues related to cyber crime should be included in the policies and programs.
