As soon as the evening falls, the Amargadhi municipality area, which is also the district headquarters, becomes dark due to the breakdown of street lights. Not only is it difficult for people to walk because the street lights are not on, there is also a risk of theft and robbery at night.

Most of the 123 solar street lights installed in the market area of the municipality have broken down. These lights, which were installed in the year 2074 at a cost of Rs 1 lakh per solar set, have not been repaired after being damaged.

Seven years ago, solar lights were installed on the roadsides of Bagbazar, Tufandanda, Kirtipur, Pokhara, Syaule and Khalanga Bazar areas of the district. Dharamdev Thapa, a hotelier, said that not only the pedestrians but also the businessmen around are a problem in the dark when the lights are not on.

Locals are disappointed that there is no plan of the municipality to repair the lights and install new lights. There is also concern that criminal activities such as theft and dacoity will increase at night.

Chief District Officer of Dadeldhura, Chomendra Neupane, said that despite repeated discussions with the people's representatives regarding the repair and expansion of street lights, the maintenance work has not progressed. Although the municipality has installed CC cameras in the market area, the work to repair the broken street lights is still pending.

The Amargadhi municipality has said that there is a plan to repair the broken old lights due to lack of budget to install new lights. Local businessmen have complained that there is a problem in business operations even late at night. Trader Krishnadatta Joshi said, "You have to close the shop at night and go home." It's dark outside, there's a fear of being stolen . When there is no street light, one does not know who will do what . The municipality should pay attention to it soon.'

Sabin Bhattarai, a local student, had to walk from his room to the college in the morning after the light broke down. "I have to go to the campus at 6 in the morning. There is a road from my room to the campus, but I have to reach the campus with the light of my mobile phone. It would be great if the lights were on," he said.

The police say that there is a security challenge in the road and market area due to lack of street lights. Dadeldhura Police Spokesperson Police Inspector Upendra Bam said that there is a risk of theft, robbery and other criminal activities in the market area due to darkness.

"There is a danger of increasing criminal activities due to broken street lights," he said, "The police are active to prevent such problems during festivals, but there is something uncomfortable when there is no light."

Parvati Jhukal, Deputy Head of Amargadhi Municipality said that there is a lack of budget for installing new lights in the road area. "Due to lack of budget, the solar lights could not be repaired," she said.

According to Kavindra Bhatt, the engineer of the municipality, the survey of the damaged lights is being done and the repair will be started after the executive allocates the budget. According to him, the problem occurs because the quality of the battery is low.

"The lifespan of a vetry is 2 to 3 years, after that there is a problem of deterioration," said Bhatt. According to him, it is seen that 10 lakhs will be spent on repairing the broken lights. Meenraj Ojha, information officer of the municipality, said that in the previous years, the alternative energy of the federal government had given an amount of 10 lakhs annually and this year the budget could not be repaired.
