One person has been arrested in connection with the death of a wild elephant in Laljhadi Rural Municipality-4 Persia of Kanchanpur. Division Forest Office Kanchanpur arrested Omprakash Rana from Persia.

An elephant was found dead in Rana's field. Chief Assistant Forest Officer of Laljhadi Sub-Division Forest Office Karunakar Joshi said that Rana was arrested after receiving reports that an elephant had died due to electrocution during investigation. 

On February 7, an adult male elephant was found dead in a field in Persia. At the place where the elephant was found dead, the gabine wire used for electrocution was also found. Joshi said that Rana was arrested after receiving a report that the elephant died due to electrocution after the post-mortem. 

Rana was arrested on Tuesday and the deadline has been extended by the district court for 8 days on Wednesday. According to the Parks and Wildlife Protection Act 2029, there is a provision of 5 to 15 years imprisonment or a fine of 5 to 10 lakhs or both. 

Rana, who was arrested, said in his initial statement that the electric wire was placed for the purpose of protecting the wheat crop, Joshi said. Joshi said that further investigation is going on regarding the incident. The wheat field where the elephant was found dead is located between Lalzhadi Mohana Protected Area and Shuklaphanta National Park.
