There was tension in Dhangadhi on Sunday between the students who are protesting against the provisions of the proposed local level law in the Far West and workers of Tarun Dal, close to the Congress. The students have thrown away the Congress party flags which were placed on the road in front of the office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers of Far West.

On Monday, the Far West Conference of the Congress is being held in Dhangadhi. Top leaders including Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba are scheduled to come to Dhangadhi for the conference.

There was tension after the students removed the party flag placed by the party workers on the main road of Dhangadhi to welcome the top leaders. The students who were protesting at the Chief Minister's office have uprooted the and threw it away. During that time, there was a general clash between the two sides. Police said that the situation was brought under control soon after.

The students are protesting against the provisions of the Bill 2081, which was submitted to the Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly to make arrangements for the formation, operation and service conditions of the Sudurpaschim Province local level. They disagreed with the provision in the bill that employees working in temporary or contract services at the local level will be given a one-time competition by the State Public Service Commission. The students are protesting on the streets saying that limited employees will benefit. Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah has said that the proposed provision will be removed.
