The under-construction motor bridge over the Chaumala River connecting Gauriganga Municipality-1 and Ward No. 2 Chaumala Bazar in Kailali has come to a standstill. Due to the negligence of the construction company, the infrastructure office said that even though the under-construction Motor Rewal Bridge is about to reach five years, the construction of the bridge has not picked up speed.
Infrastructure Development Office Kailali signed a contract with the construction company on 31 June 2077 for the construction of motor bridge on Chaumala River to be completed in three years.
Engineer Vinod Khadka of the Infrastructure Development Office said that the bridge was stalled due to the delay of the construction company. According to him, the physical progress of the construction of the 60-meter long bridge has not been very successful. He said that the abutment on Ward No. 2 has been constructed up to the cap, while the abutment on Ward No. 1 and the piling of the middle pillar have only been completed.
According to the infrastructure office, construction had contracted for 72.3 million 80 thousand rupees to build the bridge, which cost 12 million 73 million rupees. According to the contract, the construction company has received payment of 23 million 40 thousand from the infrastructure office.
Local Sagar Thapa complained that due to the delay in the construction of the bridge on the river that flows between Chaumala Bazar Ward No. 1 and 2, it is causing a lot of trouble for the locals to cross the river during the rains. He said that the residents of both the wards have to take government services and the students have to cross the river to study.
Locals say that due to lack of construction of a bridge over the river, the locals have to walk three kilometers during the rainy season. Similarly, a contract was signed with that company for Rs. YP took the contract to do
for Rs. According to the office, the budget allocated every year is frozen due to the negligence of the construction company.
