It has been agreed that the stalled construction work of Majhgaon Airport at Mahendranagar in Kanchanpur will be carried forward immediately.
On the initiative of the Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar, a high-level meeting was held at the Ministry of Home Affairs today with ministers, secretaries, and the Chief of Staff of the Nepalese Army.
In the meeting, after it was agreed to allow the 6 bigha land in the name of the Nepalese army assigned to protect the Shuklaphanta National Park to be used for the construction of the airport, the army's football field and the military residential building located in the park area were agreed upon.
The Home Minister asked the writer to solve the issue of airport construction since it has been pending for a long time. On this occasion, Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, Defense Minister Manveer Rai, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Purna Bahadur Tamang, Nepali Army Chief of Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel, Director General of Civil Aviation Authority Pradeep Adhikari and other secretaries of the Ministry have expressed their views.
In January 2078, a contract was signed for the reconstruction of the airport. At present, the tarmac work of 1,300 meters of the airport's runway has reached its final stage. During the expansion, the construction work was being affected because the airport could not agree on the acquisition of 6 bigha land of the army on the south side of the airport.
In today's meeting, the Minister of Home Affairs informed that it was agreed to send a team including all participating agencies to Mahendranagar and start the construction of the runway immediately. "Even before this, there was a discussion for agreement and exit at different stages," he said.
During the construction of the airport, it has been agreed that the environmental impact assessment of the land in the forest area will also be carried out. "As the army has agreed on the land required for the airport (football field and housing), the work will proceed immediately," said the Home Minister. In the
meeting, Chief of Army Staff Sigdel stressed that there is no disagreement on the construction of the airport on the army's land, and that the soccer field that will be demolished should be built on the empty land of the park area and that housing should be built. Regarding the demands of the army, the ministers and officials of the relevant ministries are positive about the military structure and the football field. said.
The Home Minister has been facilitating the construction of Majhagaon Airport for a long time. The construction of the airport has been started with the investment of 15% of Bhimdatta Municipality, 10% of Dodhara-Chandni Municipality, 25% of Sudurpaschim Province Government and 50% of Civil Aviation Authority.
