Deepak Bahadur Singh aka Devsingh Thakuri, 48 years old from Kailali's Godavari Municipality-11, who absconded from Kailali Jail 12 years ago while serving a prison sentence for murder, was arrested by the Kailali Police on Wednesday. He escaped from Kailali prison in 069.
Police said that Thakuri was arrested from Gaddachouki area of Kanchanpur on Wednesday morning. Kailali District Police Office SP Padam Bahadur Bista said that Thakuri was arrested by a five-member team from Kailali Police.
"After the Kailali district court gave a verdict of life imprisonment in the duty killing case, Thakuri escaped from the Kailali jail on the pretext of getting eye treatment on 22nd of October 2006, when he was serving his sentence," SP Bista said, "He was arrested by the Indian police in November 080 while he was hiding in India. After getting the news that he was released on bail from the Indian prison, we sent a team to Gaddachouk. In November 2008, he was arrested by the Indian police in Mumbai on the charge of robbing a bank and a gold and silver shop.
Thakuri is accused of murdering Man Bahadur goldsmith of Godavari on 02 Oct 2016. Similarly, on February 24, 2006, Bam Bahadur Saund, known as Bhakta Bahadur of Godavari, was shot and killed by the District Court of Kailali, which sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Thakuri was arrested with weapons on 10 June 2016. At that time, a case of weapons and narcotics was also filed against him. He is also accused of kidnapping and body hostage. According to the district police office, he is also accused of kidnapping Shobhan Tamta of Phulbari in Dhangadhi sub-municipality on 10 June 2016.
