Tharu artist Samu Chaudhary is currently busy with making duna-tapri and decorating the house. The main festival of the Tharu community is approaching. That is why his busyness has also increased.

Living in Bhimdatta Municipality-1 Rajipur, she has done the work of fetching sal leaves from the forest, cleaning the house, and making Jhol (Jand) of Unadi. Kutani has also worked as a baker .

Now there is a cold wave in Terai . It is not possible to leave the house . However, men and women of the Tharu community are busy preparing for Maghi. Various works are being done by staying at home, making Duna-Tapari, and making Jhol of Andi.

'The work of making the house lippot and jar (Jand) has been completed,' said Samu, 'we have also brought sal leaves from the forest, now we are making duna-tapri.' From before, making Jhol of Unadi, bringing leaves from the forest a week ago and making duna-tapri is done . In the meantime, there are jobs like Kutani Pisani to managing Bangur.

Maghi is an important festival for the Tharu community. It is also celebrated as New Year . At this time, those who went out for work also return home . Not only this, the work of choosing the big houses and planning the whole year at home also happens now. Hariram Dagoura of Bhimdatta Municipality-1 Rajipur said, "We enjoy eating and dancing on the day of Maghi. Then we start planning for the whole year after selecting the badghar." On the day before Maghi, bangur is cut and divided. According to that everyone pays money . Apart from that, local breeds of chickens and fish are also searched.  When the

is being sought, there are things like separation of brothers, choosing a house and so on . In the past, it was the time to leave home and look for a new home while working. It is called Khokhani Bhojani . After Kamaiya Mukti it has been closed .

"Many brothers have separated in our village, now they are preparing to build a new house," Lautan Chowdhury of Bhimdatta Municipality-1 Rajipur said, "House demolition is also done now." According to him, there used to be a big family in the past. They used to separate when they wanted. But now, due to the small size of the family, there is less demolition work like in the past.

During Maghi, the Tharu community cooks dishes such as bangur meat, fish, chicken meat, andi's jhol, dhikri, and potatoes. In the morning everyone gets up and takes a bath and worships the deity. After that, the blessings of those who are older than themselves are taken. Then they go to everyone's house to take blessings and eat.

Those who are out for employment also return home during the search. Daughters and sisters also visit Maiti at this time . As Maghi is approaching, the Tharu village is getting busier. Various types of shopping including management of vegetables and meat are also being done.

Maghauta dance takes place in the Tharu community during Maghi . This dance is danced from house to house. From now on, women and men are preparing for the Maghauta dance. But artist Samu says that the splendor of Maghauta dance is diminishing like in the past. According to him, because the new generation is forgetting the old culture, the color is decreasing.

Before and after Maghi, various organizations have been organizing Maghi Milan programs in various places to reflect Tharu culture and tradition. But the leaders of the Tharu community say that cultural preservation cannot be done with such events only during festivals.
