A test flight was conducted on Saturday at the Kamalbazar airport, which was destroyed in the attack of the then rebel Maoists. After 32 years of construction, Captain TS Nagarkoti of Tara Airlines flew the aircraft for a test flight.
After the successful test flight at Kamalbazar Airport, the Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Pandey is scheduled to inaugurate the program on Saturday itself.
In the year 2058, the airport's repeater tower, which was completed and ready for operation, was destroyed, and the test flight was closed. The test flight took place after the airport was graveled with the allocated budget in the financial year 2080/081, which did not gain momentum for a long time after the construction started. A month ago, after the preparation of the test flight, the Minister of State for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Arun Chaudhary also inspected the airport.
The construction work of Kamalbazar Airport was started in the year 2049. Estimated to be built in the year 2048 at a cost of Rs 463 million, this project had spent Rs 25 million in the initial phase.
Since the airport could not be operational, local residents have been using it for cattle grazing, party programs and sports activities.
After the successful test flight of Kamalbazar Airport, it is believed that the transport facilities of this region will be facilitated and new dimensions will be opened for economic development. The operation of the airport is expected to boost the tourism, trade and transport sectors of Far West including Achham.
