In the fourth attempt, the Chief Minister of the Far West, Ghilg Bahadur Sodari, has received the vote of confidence. In the voting held on Thursday in the 53-member state assembly, Chief Minister Sodari got the support of 28 MPs. 28 MPs including 11 from UML, 10 from Maoist, 4 from United Socialist Party, 2 from Civil Immunity and one independent MP voted in favor. The opposition parties boycotted the voting process.
Chief Minister Sodari submitted the vote of confidence amid sloganeering by Congress, Civil Immunity (Resham Chaudhary supporters) and RPP MPs. After Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari proceeded with the vote-sharing process, MPs from the angry opposition party boycotted the meeting and left the chamber. They protested with slogans as soon as the meeting started.
There are seven parliamentarians, five of the opposition and two of the ruling party sat on the bench. President Ranjita Shrestha, supporters Kailash Chaudhary and Tika Thapa are in power. Both are ministers. Pro-Resham MPs Ghanshyam Chaudhary, Khushiram Dagaura Tharu, Laxman Kishore Chaudhary, Rameshwar Chaudhary and Indira Giri sat on the opposition bench. In the
meeting, the leader of Civil Liberation Parliamentary Party, Ghanshyam Choudhary, claimed that the appointment of Chief Minister was illegal because his party did not have the support. Congress Parliamentary Party leader Kamal Bahadur Shah said that the appointment process of the Chief Minister is unconstitutional, the steps taken by the Head of State and the Speaker are arbitrary, so the demand for resignation has been advanced and how to proceed in the next meeting is being discussed.
Chief Minister Sodari, who was appointed on May 6, had previously prepared to take the vote of confidence on May 21, 22 and Thursday morning. UML was not ready to give a vote of confidence in the first two meetings. After the UML parliamentary party decided on Wednesday to give a vote of confidence to Sodari but not to go to the government immediately, the atmosphere was created for him to get a vote of confidence. Similarly, the Maoists who supported Sodari as Chief Minister decided to place Khagraj Bhatt higher than the leader of the party, Man Bahadur Dhami, after the parliamentary party meeting held on Thursday, he attended the parliamentary party meeting.
