The physical progress of the west section (Pokhara-Jamune) of the Pokhara-Muglin road has reached 55.10 percent and the financial progress has reached 42.50 percent. The project office has informed that the first level black sheet has been laid on one side for 37.70 km of the total distance of 38.88 km.
According to Krishna Bahadur Kunwar, chief engineer of that section, two-way (four-lane) 26.38 km and one-way (two-lane) 10.32 km of the road have been blacked out.
The construction of this section started from August 2078 and the contract period is till next December. Engineer Kunwar said that the deadline was extended twice before because the construction company did not work on time. The Chinese construction company Yanhui Kaiyuan Highway and Bridge Construction is working on road expansion and upgrading in that section.
Engineer Kunwar said that half of the road from Tanahun's Jamune to Pokhara's Seti Bridge will be six-lane and the other half will be four-lane. He said that out of 13 bridges in the western section, 11 bridges have been built and two bridges are under construction. Out of 105 culverts, 103 have been constructed.
Bridge construction has been completed in Magdekhola, Kumlekhola, Thadekhola, Samdikhola, Mulkhola, Fedikhola-1, Fedikhola-2, Rudikhola, Haledikhola, Kalikhola and Kotrekhola in Kaski. Kaski's Vijaypur under the road contract and Seti bridge under the bridge contract are under construction. The physical progress of the Vijayapur river bridge has reached 60 percent, while the physical progress of the Seti bridge has reached 48 percent. Engineer Kunwar said that it will take another five to six months to build the Vijaypur bridge.
The physical progress of the Seti bridge, whose three-year contract period will end in August, is also seen to be minimal. In July 2079, the construction company Rasuwa Construction took over the construction of the bridge. Engineer Kunwar said that the bridge could not be built on time due to the delay in the work from the approval of the design of the bridge to the removal of structures within the standards.
He says that the sub-structure work has been completed on the bridge of only-steady technology and now the super-structure work is being done on the downstream bridge. According to the construction company, the construction of the signature bridge, which will be made with an attractive design, will take more time to build the foundation, but the work on the upper structure including the tower will be done quickly. On the six-lane road, two signature bridges of attractive structure will be built below and above the existing China bridge.
The construction of the bridge is being done under a contract of Rs 94 crore excluding VAT. Concrete and steel have been used in the bridge. The road under the Prithvi Highway, which was built 50 years ago, is being expanded and upgraded with the loan support of the Asian Development Bank. The project office said that if there are no obstacles in the construction, the road upgrading work will be completed by the next winter.
In the eastern section of the road (Jamune-Muglin), which is the 'lifeline' of Gandaki province, the project office said that the physical progress has reached 86 percent so far.
