UML Standing Committee member and Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has claimed that the current government is unable to hold elections.
Addressing a rally held by UML in Dhankuta, Karki urged the government not to stage an election drama as the main demand of UML is the restoration of the parliament. He said that the demands raised now will be addressed by restoring the House of Representatives by taking the democratic forces into confidence and only then will the issue of elections be discussed. Karki said that the security agencies should be ready for the elections and the citizens should be ready for it.
He said that the UML will not be intimidated by the commission formed by the unconstitutionally formed Sushila Karki-led government. Saying that a peaceful election cannot be imagined by tightening the security forces, Karki accused the government of failing to return the looted weapons and take action against the criminals.
Before the rally, UML had demonstrated at the Dhankuta district headquarters. The rally took place at Madan Chowk, Beech Bazaar, Hulakatol, Bhim Narayan Chowk, Upper Kopche, Lower Kopche, Tundikhel and the bus park.
The meeting was addressed by UML central member Rajendra Kumar Rai, Dhankuta District President Shiva Angla Limbu, and leader Arjun Rai.
