As the US Congress prepares to certify the results of the election, thousands of protesters have gathered on the National Mall in Washington DC. They are marching to the US Capitol on Capitol Hill to fight the results of the election.

Claiming that the election was rigged, they planned to occupy the parliament and obstruct the verification of electoral votes. The plan also includes a group of armed National Guards, not to protect MPs and Parliament House, but to support the rebels' plans to take over Chapel Hill. 

The president and his advisers are trying to decide on the right course of action to defuse the conflict and prevent a possible 'coup'. Meanwhile, armed protests are starting across the country and more rebels are advancing on state parliament buildings with the help of some US military personnel.

When the rebels are trying to overturn the results of the presidential election, the ex-army extremist group called Red Cell not only instigated the rebellion through social media, but also incited the president to implement the US Sedition Act . This Act of 1806 gives the US President the authority to mobilize the US Army and the Federal National Guard within the US in special situations, including suppressing rebellion.

Efforts are being made to make the environment more exciting by spreading rumors through social media. After nearly 6 hours of tense atmosphere, the President's move brings the situation under control.  The

scene is a scene envisioned in the recent public documentary thriller War Game. But the worry about such a situation after the November 5 election is not just a hypothesis. Focusing on the president's resistance to rumors and questions about his military control, the documentary features six hours of actual game footage. On January 6, 2023, an organization called Vet Voice conducted a 6-hour table-top exercise with a group of current and former government officials. The exercise was conducted to better understand how elected officials and the military might respond to an attack on Capitol Hill to overturn the election results or an attempted attack on democracy, including former governors, retired generals, retired major generals, former US Army lieutenants, former senators,  Ex-CIS officer, ex-FBI officer and others participated.

Although the Pentagon has taken steps to prevent extremism within the US military, it has not produced any results. Bills targeting extremism within the US military have also failed to gain bipartisan support. Three retired generals wrote a warning article in the "Washington Post" in 2021 about the possible rebellion after this election, in which the US military was warned and suggested to make adequate preparations to prevent a rebellion after the 2024 election .

They warned of the possibility of deadly chaos within the US military after the 2024 presidential election. Because, the participants in the 2021 Capitol Hill attack included some people working in the US military. A group of 124 US military veterans released a letter supporting Donald Trump's allegations of election fraud and criticizing the election.

After Joe Biden was elected as the American president, there is also a history of the National Guard of the state not obeying the president's orders. The commanding general of the Oklahoma National Guard refused to accept the order of the US President saying that his head was not the US President but the governor of the state. Therefore, according to the party line, the chain of command in the National Guard may be broken and even the President's order may be rejected by the National Guard of the state, which has increased the risk.

If defeated in the US presidential election, Donald Trump has refused to express that he would accept the result. Therefore, if he is defeated in the next election, if the shadow government is ordered according to the Republican party line, there is a danger that the Republican states may accept Trump's orders instead of the White House. Therefore, if Trump is defeated in the US presidential election, the day of vote verification on January 6, 2025, the threat of a possible coup in the United States has increased the security concern of democracy. 

The scenario before the election

In America, it is not possible to capture booths directly like in Nepal. But the US is not free from other concerns that could destroy the election. New risks have also been added in this year's election compared to the past. As the supporters of Donald Trump in various states are continuously attacking the election system and election workers, almost one third of the election workers have resigned. Those who work as election workers in the state of Cayenne have chosen a different profession considering that there may be risks in their personal lives as well. Currently, those working as election workers in Kayan state are also in fear of physical attacks on them.

There is a danger that there may be various attempts to deprive the voters of the right to vote. Disruption on election day can disenfranchise people. Due to the security threat around the polling station, the voters of the back ground state may be afraid to go to the polling station . Due to riots or other threats, there may not only be problems at the polling stations or counting stations, but the fear of riots may also cause voters to hesitate to go to the polling stations on election day.

It has also been seen that the fear of rioting by Trump supporters in areas where many votes fall in favor of the Democratic Party candidate may discourage voters from voting. 

There is also a danger that political party workers can create obstacles by spreading rumors as observers in the election. Rumors such as voting in the name of a dead person, voting by another using one's identity card, and voting by people without American citizenship are not new in American elections.

However, looking at the statistics, the number of people who voted in this way is very small, which number can affect the results of the election. However, if the supporters of the political party working as observers spread rumors from a polling station, such rumors may spread to other areas as well, and the election may be affected, delayed, or polling stopped.

In case of such incidents, other voters who have gone or are going to the polling place may be discouraged to vote. Nepali Americans of Pennsylvania also expressed this fear recently. Some of them were reluctant to register their names in the voter list and vote as they might be targeted by supporters of other political parties. 

Apart from that, the threat of cyber attacks cannot be ignored. There are dangers that such cyber attacks can create obstacles in the elections, there can be problems in announcing the results on the night of the elections, and the votes can be hacked due to cyber attacks.

Since 98 percent of voters in the US use paper ballots, it is not possible for the election to be completely hacked through a cyber attack or the votes to be changed . But the process may be delayed due to cyber attacks . There is a danger that cyber attacks can affect the elections more, especially in the battleground states where there is intense competition. 

Similarly, there are disputes about the counting of provisional ballots sent by post. Especially in the battleground states, this topic has been becoming hot for a long time. Based on the details of the last election, 29 thousand to 43 thousand ballots are canceled in Pennsylvania. This number may be enough to influence the outcome of the entire election. If there is a slight difference in votes, disputes about which ballots to count can reach the court. So it may take a long time to get the results of the election.

States including Pennsylvania and Wisconsin have laws that prevent mail-in ballots from being processed before Election Day. In the 2020 election, 33 million people voted by postal ballot, due to the Corona epidemic, the number of people who voted by postal ballot was high that year, but this year the number is not that high. However, it seems that there may be a delay in declaring the final result after counting the ballots received by post in the states where there is a small margin of votes. 

Election officials in battleground states can also be influenced by political party beliefs. In the 2020 election, 35 election officials of the battleground state refused to certify the election results. However, they have no legal right to refuse to certify the election results. It doesn't make much difference if they don't verify it, but it can delay the process .

Since the decision-making authority rests with the court, the election officials have no other authority except to count the numbers . But when they refuse to verify the election results, the subject has to go to the court, so it may take a long time for the official results of the election to come. 

Officials are concerned about possible violence against poll workers. Kayan election officials and their families are also in panic. Since Trump is constantly saying that the 2020 election was rigged, his supporters are also blaming it on the election officials. After the 2020 elections, there was an increase in threats against election workers. Recently, the Department of Justice released details of a man in Philadelphia who threatened to kill and skin a representative of a political party that appointed observers.

Apart from this, there is concern and interest about external threats in the election. US officials are also worried that Russia could spread chaos in the US after the election. US intelligence agencies have warned that foreign powers including Russia and Iran may take steps to weaken the democratic process. US intelligence officials claim that Russia is considering actions to incite protests and violence after the US election. Before this, along with Iran and China, Russia also tried to influence the election through numerous attempts to spread false information. Recently, Russia created and circulated a fake video accusing Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz of sexual misconduct.
