Minister for Urban Development, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, and Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising, has said that the process of releasing development projects stalled at the Ministry of Finance is progressing rapidly.

Ghising, who arrived in Manthali, the headquarters of his home district Ramechhap for the first time after being appointed as a minister, gave this information at a discussion program with district-level stakeholders on Monday.

According to him, the Finance Ministry had put on hold projects worth more than one trillion rupees across the country, costing three to four crore rupees. 'Of the projects that have been put on hold across the country, projects worth about 30-40 billion rupees have been released,' Minister Ghising said, 'The remaining projects are also in the process of being released.'

Minister Ghising informed that all projects related to Ramechhap district have been sent to the Finance Ministry for release and expressed confidence that these projects will be implemented soon. He also said that he has instructed the concerned offices to prepare so that the tender process can proceed the next day after the project is released.

He stressed that the government is serious about implementing development projects on time and stressed the need for coordination between the federal, provincial and local levels for the overall development of the district.

Claiming that significant work has been done in the electricity sector, Minister Ghising said that the demand for 'high mast lights' and 'street lights' to be installed for safety and beautification has increased significantly in the market.

According to him, there is a demand from many local levels across the country for the installation of these lights. 'There is a demand from many municipalities for high mast lights and street lights,' Minister Ghising said, 'But this program is currently on hold. Now we are thinking about resuming it.'

Recalling that the 'high mast light' installation program was launched across the country when he was the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Minister Ghising said that the program was almost closed after he left office. He indicated that these programs are necessary for safety, street lighting and urban beautification and indicated that they will be effectively taken forward again in coordination with the local levels.
