The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that the river flow at the Gaurighat Hydrometer Station of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu has exceeded the alert level. As the water level has crossed the alert level, the department has urged residents of the riverbanks and inundated areas to adopt high alertness until Monday morning.
According to the department, the water level of the Bagmati River at Gaurighat has reached 2.41 meters, which is the alert level of the river water level 2.1 meters above. As the river flow is increasing, the department has requested that special precautions be taken in the inundated areas around the river.
According to Binod Parajuli, a flood expert at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the water level of the Bagmati River is considered to have crossed the danger level when it reaches 2.7 meters. The department has also urged citizens living in riverbanks, flooded settlements, and low-lying coastal areas to avoid unnecessary travel, move to safer places if necessary, and regularly follow the latest flood and landslide-related information and warnings issued by the department.
