Traffic police have taken action against 2,293 drivers during vehicle checks conducted at various locations in the Kathmandu Valley in the last 24 hours.
As of Tuesday morning, 113 were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, 184 for ride-sharing, 157 for running red lights, 124 for speeding, 219 for lane crossing, 123 for footpaths, 73 for not honking, 105 for one-way traffic, and 1,195 for other violations, informed Valley Traffic Police Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi.
He said, 'In the past 24 hours, 2,293 drivers have been arrested for violating traffic rules in the Kathmandu Valley. A total of 2,426,000 rupees have been collected as revenue from the action.'
Driving under the influence of alcohol is against the law and punishable, and if the driver suspects that he or she has consumed alcohol or drugs, the traffic police have urged passengers to immediately report the incident to the nearest police office, the traffic control room hotline number 103, and the police hotline number 100.
