Bagmati Sweets Pvt. Ltd., located in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu-11, has been banned from producing and selling the products after it was found to be violating food hygiene and quality standards.
The department has taken action by stopping production as per the law after serious deficiencies in hygiene and quality were found during a joint inspection by the Food Technology and Quality Control Department and the District Administration Office, Kathmandu on Monday.
According to the department's spokesperson, Dr. Balkumari Sharma, the cleanliness of the factory producing ready-made food products was not satisfactory, waste management was weak, and worms were found in the almonds kept for use in dried fruit packs. The department had confiscated the worm-infected almonds found in the industry and destroyed them.
After the inspection, the department has instructed the industry to stop producing and selling the products until further orders and to correct the deficiencies and present them with evidence within 3 days.
Sharma informed that samples of almonds and dried fruit mix have been collected for further investigation and sent for laboratory testing.
