Vehicles will be banned from entering the Asan area of Kathmandu every Saturday from the new year. In order to protect the originality of Asan, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has decided to increase social, cultural and commercial activities by banning vehicles from every Saturday from 5th Baisakh.
Earlier, preparations were underway to ban vehicles from 28th Chaitra with the participation of local organizations, clubs and communities. In this context, a meeting chaired by the acting mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, including Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain, Ward Chairman Yogesh Khadgi, Head of the Administration Department Mahesh Kafle, and officials of the concerned offices, local organizations, clubs and community representatives decided to postpone the program by a week and implement the program from 5th Baisakh to avoid any weakness in the preparations.
'Asan is a place necessary for religious and social work from gold to salt and from birth to death.' It is our responsibility to preserve its ancient and cultural significance.' Acting Chief Dangol said in the meeting, 'Let's start the program with the leadership of the ward office, the participation of stakeholders and partners, and local ownership. Let's make the work that has been started sustainable.' She said that the program will be run by prioritizing the ease and safety of movement and local residents.'
'The ward has taken forward the program with the locals, organizations, clubs and communities.' Ward Chairman Yogesh Kumar Khadgi said, 'The program will contribute to the originality of Asan Bazaar, air pollution control and urban environment improvement.'
Under the 'Vehicle Free Asan' program, every vehicle will be banned from entering the area from Kamalakshi Chowk to Asan, from Bhotahiti Chowk to Asan, and from Mahabouddha to Asan. Vehicles going to their destinations from this area will be provided with an alternative route.
