Kathmandu Metropolitan City, in collaboration with Sajha Yatayat, has prepared to operate night bus services from April 1.
There will be a route from Lalitpur's Lagankhel, Patan Hospital, Alka, Norvic, Maternity Home, Trauma Center, Bir Hospital, Kanti Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Gangalal Heart Center to Budhanilkantha. KMC has stated that this will be a 16-kilometer one-way route from north to south.
From Thankot to the international airport via Satungal, Kalanki, Kalimati, Tripureshwor, Thapathali, Maitighar Mandala, Baneshwor, Minbhavan, Tinkune, the one-way distance is 20 kilometers. KMC has informed that 4 night electric buses will operate on these 2 routes.
'We are starting the night public transport service as it is necessary to solve the problem of expensive travel due to the lack of public transport after 8:00 pm,' said Sunita Dangol, acting head of KMC. 'I believe that this will be resolved to some extent as everyone is facing problems due to the lack of public transport and its alternatives.' She expressed her belief that it will be somewhat easier as girls and women have previously faced abuse at night and students have also been financially burdened.
Dangol informed that KMC is preparing with the goal of making the service state-of-the-art, integrated, convenient, safe, reliable, sustainable and system-friendly. She said that the metropolis is ready to collaborate with partners to achieve this goal. When the service is started, buses will operate from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Buses will arrive from the bus stops on the specified routes at intervals of every 20 minutes. CCTV cameras will be installed on the buses and the city police will be deployed for security.
