Kathmandu Metropolitan City is going to organize the Swayambhu Festival from April 12. 

In a discussion held here on Saturday under the organization of Metropolitan City Ward No. 15, it was agreed to organize the festival from April 12 to 19. Ward Chairman of Ward 15, Ishworman Dangol, said that the festival is being organized with the aim of promoting the ancient religious, cultural, archaeological and social identity of the ward including monasteries, chaityas, and monasteries, as well as tangible and intangible heritage. 

According to him, this year the festival will be organized at eight places including Bhuinkhel, Earthquake Park Camp, Kimdol, Bijeshwari, Dallu, Dallu Awas Ganesh Sthan, Chamati Dabu and Annapurna area.  'The festival is expected to promote ancient but neglected monuments as tourist destinations, contribute to the income of ward residents through the sale of local products, and help in the recognition of local talent,' said Ward Chairman Dangol. 

There will be coordination between the Metropolitan Police Circle, Swayambhu and the Metropolitan Police Force to make the festival harmonious and safe. Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Force Chief Bishnu Prasad Joshi said that security management will be tightened this year based on the experience of past festivals. 

Mohan Mani Adhikari, Chief of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Swayambhu, said that peace and security will be effective with the equal participation of the locals and said that collaboration will be made with the Metropolitan Police Force for this. 

Swayambhu Mahachaitya, the folklore related to the relationship of Manjushri with the establishment of the Mahachaitya, Shantipur based on the Tantric knowledge of Jamun Gumaju are important monuments in this area. Among the Shaktipeeths, the temple of Shobha Bhagwati, the temple based on Tantric knowledge, and the Geeta Temple are potential places for cultural tourism. The Natural Science Museum is a place worth visiting for both domestic and foreign tourists. 

The main festivals celebrated in the ward are Gunla Mela, Buddha Jayanti, Temal Jatra that starts from Boudha and ends in Swayambhu, Sakadhawa celebrated by people from the Himalayan region, and Ropain Mela held in Shrawan. This ward, which is predominantly Newar, has a mixed population including Aryas, Tamangs, Gurungs, and Magars.
