The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Affairs, which has been regularly monitoring the market and enforcing the law, has imposed cash fines on two firms.
The department has fined Ghimire Store in Lalitpur Metropolitan City 15 Rs 11,000 after it found irregularities during an on-site inspection. New Max Store Bhaktapur Sallaghari has been fined Rs 5,000. The firms have been taken action under Section 38 of the Consumer Protection Act-2075.
Himalayan Dairy Production and Yusa Dairy have been directed to appear before the department with business-related documents. The department has given corrective instructions to nine other firms. The department has been conducting regular market inspections in the presence of local administration, consumer rights activists and stakeholders.
