Various organizations within the community have unanimously voted to list Yamari, the traditional, original and cultural food dish of the Newar community, as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

In the discussion, the officials and representatives of Jyapu Mahaguthi Nepal, Nepal Tandukar Samaj, Bajracharya Conservation Club, Karanjit Samaj, Syasya Samaj, Ranjitkar Samaj Nepal, Chitrakar (Pun) Samaj, Central Manandhar Sangh, Kapali Samaj, Uday Samaj, Nepal Mali Samaj, Kasa Tadh Guthi, Tamrakar Samaj, Rajkarnikar Samaj, Rajak Samaj Development Association, Dyola Samaj Sangh, Nepal Khadgi Seva Samiti, Nakami Samaj Seva Pucha, Nepal Napit Samaj expressed their views.
'Language, literature, oral tradition, and expression, which are the carriers of cultural heritage, are intangible heritage,' said UNESCO's intangible heritage expert Dr. Monalisa Maharjan, 'Performing arts, social behavior, rituals and festivals, knowledge and behavior related to nature and the universe, and traditional art skills are intangible heritage.'
Such discussions and interactions will be given regularity and suggestions and feedback from community leaders will be accepted, said Kumari Rai, head of the Department of Heritage and Tourism.
The Convention on the Intangible Cultural Heritage was adopted in 2003. Nepal became a party in 2010.
