Kathmandu Metropolitan City has begun the process of converting 75 houses in the Jaya Bageshwori area to their original form. The construction party has been selected through a bidding process in the area falling in KMC-8 and the work has been progressed by signing a contract for Rs 94.89 million and 377 thousand.

Under this plan, the facades of houses on the right and left sides of the 290-meter road from Jayabageshwori Temple to Setodhoka will be converted to the Malla or Rana era, said Ashaman Sangat, coordinator of the KMC Heritage and Tourism Committee.

Regardless of the ownership, the architectural style developed within the Kathmandu Valley during a certain period of history is considered traditional. This includes structures from the Malla period to the Rana period.

Sangat, who is also the chairman of Ward No. 8, said, 'Parts such as the house's frame, cornice, balensi, pakha or pali, and thatched roof will be kept in the Malla era style. The bricks used in the house's construction are visible from the outside. One-, three-, and five-sided, odd-shaped, dot-shaped traditional windows will be kept.'

There are about 250 houses connected to the road in this area. Among them, the association informed that the appearance of the front of the house visible from the road or open space is being changed.

These houses have structures of religious, cultural and social importance within this road section, including the White Gate (Tuyu Dhwakha), Dhokasingh Narsingh Falcha, Tamreshwor Falcha, Tamreshwor Mahadev Temple, traditional well in the temple premises, Dhoka Che Falcha, Bachchaleshwari Davali Falcha, Gamti Mahadev Temple with idols, traditional well in the temple premises.

Kumari Dya Duddha Stupa, Ramlanka Falcha, Navagraha Murti, Matha Falcha, Mrityunjay Mahadev, Brahma Temple, Narsingh Bhagwan Temple, Navadurga Falcha, Navadurga Davali, Jayabageshwari Temple, Sundhara and other tangible heritages related to local life, faith and devotion.

The program has been implemented to maintain the appearance of traditional-style private and institutionally owned buildings of historical, archaeological, cultural and architectural importance within the KMC area.
