39 schools operating in Kathmandu Metropolitan City have changed their names to reflect Nepali identity. The Metropolitan City Education Department has informed that the names of the schools have been changed to reflect Nepali identity, in compliance with the request made by the Metropolitan City since last year.

Currently, there are 26 basic schools, 58 secondary schools, four special schools,  23 alternative schools, 11 religious schools, 28 community learning centers, and 425 institutional schools in the metropolitan city, said Keshav Gyawali, acting department head of the metropolitan city education department.

Similarly, the metropolitan city has also informed that 30,779 students from its schools have been provided with scholarship opportunities in the academic session 2081. After the metropolitan city made the scholarship system-based, it is said that 5,895 students have received this opportunity in girl students' scholarships, 1,322 in Dalit scholarships, and 455 students with disabilities and residential scholarships.

Similarly, 19,306 students from grades 1 to 10 and 3,801 students in grades 11 and 12 have received scholarships in institutional schools, Gyawali informed. A budget of Rs 3.29 billion 4.777 billion was allocated for education this year. 53.8 percent of this, or Rs 1.77 billion, has been spent.

Out of the Rs 1.48 billion allocated for regular internal programs, 30 percent, or Rs 315.6 million, has been spent. The Metropolitan Municipality says that out of the Rs 600 million allocated for the 'Garikhane Shiksha, Mahanagarko Ichcha' program, Rs 516.6 million, or 8.4 percent, has been spent.

Similarly, out of the Rs 111.4 million allocated for the education sector's golden plan, Rs 43.2 million, or 38.8 percent, has been spent. Out of the Rs 1.42 billion, 450 million received from the federal conditional grant, 92.9 percent, or Rs 1.32 billion, has been spent.
