To control the increasing traffic congestion in the Kathmandu Valley, the Traffic Police has strictly implemented a new system. From now on, all long-distance night and day public vehicles operating within the valley must leave only from designated bus parks.
Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson and Superintendent of Police of the Valley Traffic Police Office, informed that in recent days, long-distance vehicles have been found to be stopping at the roadside to pick up and drop off passengers indiscriminately, especially during peak hours, as this has been creating serious traffic jams on the roads, said the spokesperson of the Valley Traffic Police Office and Superintendent of Police.
He said, “The congestion on the roads of the capital is increasing rapidly. The illegal stopping of long-distance vehicles to pick up and drop off passengers has further aggravated the traffic jams, so now all vehicles have to leave only from the bus park.”
Similarly, the need to review the road permits being given to long-distance vehicles has been felt, and the Traffic Office has already requested the relevant bodies to take necessary initiatives, said the spokesperson. “Since traffic jams directly affect the daily lives of citizens, coordination of all concerned bodies is indispensable for its long-term solution,” he said.
The traffic police has also been putting forward various strict measures to strengthen road discipline. The office has stated that awareness classes have been started for drivers who violate red lights, cross lanes, drive at high speed and drive under the influence of alcohol. It is said that plans have also been made to make these classes more effective with the aim of developing responsible behavior in drivers.
In addition, online awareness classes have also been launched for service recipients. To use this service, drivers and service recipients who have been using the mobile app will have to uninstall the previously installed application once and reinstall it, said Spokesperson Subedi. According to him, since the new system allows the service recipients to take classes from home, it is expected to provide more convenience.
Spokesperson Subedi said that it is believed that after the implementation of the new system, there will be a significant improvement in the unorganized parking, unnecessary blockages and passenger management seen in the Valley. It is said that the traffic police are continuously active to strengthen the traffic management of the Valley and provide easy movement to the citizens.
