Free Wi-Fi internet now available at 19 locations in Kathmandu

Free Wi-Fi internet service has been expanded to various hospitals, the Pashupatinath Temple area, the airport, as well as areas where sensitive, important, and public services are provided.

Free Wi-Fi internet now available at 19 locations in Kathmandu

Free Wi-Fi internet will now be available in 19 different public places in Kathmandu. Free Wi-Fi internet service has been expanded to various hospitals, the Pashupatinath Temple area, the airport, as well as sensitive, important and public service delivery areas.

According to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Wi-Fi internet service has already been maintained, improved in quality and expanded in places where it was previously available, and eight new locations, including three under construction, have been connected. According to the ministry, Wi-Fi service will now be available in Kathmandu's New Bus Park, Bhaktapur Hospital, Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, Kirtipur Hospital and Tribhuvan International Airport with new installations and capacity expansion.

In addition, work is underway to establish and enhance capacity at the Thulobharyang Transport Management Office in Kathmandu and the Ekantakuna Transport Management Office in Lalitpur. The ministry says that the new installation is in progress at the Radhe Radhe Transport Management Office in Bhaktapur.

For the continuity and sustainability of free Wi-Fi, the concerned organizations have reached an agreement with the service provider company. Nepal Telecom, Worldlink and Vianet companies have collaborated to establish free Wi-Fi internet.

With the special initiative of Minister of Communications Kharel, the regulatory Nepal Telecommunication Authority has expanded access to free Wi-Fi internet in coordination with the service provider company.

According to the authority, earlier, the 10 Mbps bandwidth has been increased to 150 Mbps in Bir Hospital, Paropkar Maternity Home and Gynecology Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital Maharajgunj, Teku Hospital, Kanti Children's Hospital, Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center, Civil Hospital, National Trauma Center, Patan Hospital, Shahid Dharmabhakta Mathema National Treatment Center and Pashupati Temple premises. In those areas, the bandwidth for each device has been increased from 100 MB to 500 MB. Similarly, Nepal Telecom has made an action plan to expand free Wi-Fi in 35 airports, including Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

New Wi-Fi service has been provided at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital with six access points and Kirtipur Hospital with five access points. After being appointed as the Minister of Information and Communication Technology on Asoj 20, Minister Kharel signed his first decision during his tenure at the ministry, deciding to provide free Wi-Fi access to important public places in the Kathmandu Valley within two months. According to the ministry, work has also been underway to provide free Wi-Fi internet access to ten important cities outside the valley.

 A team including Communications Minister Kharel is scheduled to visit New Bus Park, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Pashupati area and Tribhuvan International Airport from 11 am to 1 pm today to monitor the operation of the free Wi-Fi internet service.
