It has been urged not to misuse the national flag of Nepal, which features the moon and sun.
Former ministers Jwala Kumari Shah, Bhagwati Neupane, former Minister of State Bimala BK and National Assembly member Bhairav Sundar Shrestha, UML leaders Parbati Rawal, Parbati Bishunke, Aindra Sundar Nembang, Surya Dhakal, Hari Rajbanshi, Afilal Okhara, Govinda Thapa and writers and analysts Prof Dr Yogendra Gurung, Dr Padam Khatiwada and Sauram Raj Tuladhar issued a joint appeal on Friday, urging people not to misuse the Nepali flag in the recent past.
They also demanded action against those who misused the flag by wearing the national flag and were arrested in connection with incidents of arson, vandalism, robbery and theft during the Gen-G protests on Bhadra 23 and 24.
The appeal, calling for the misuse of the national flag, reads, 'The national flag is a symbol of our unity. Using the national flag to establish one's own ideas and issues does not necessarily mean respecting and maintaining the dignity of the flag. Using the national flag with vested interests should be prohibited. It is immoral to emotionally mislead the people by showing the national flag and putting the flag forward to establish one's own issues.'
