Four-wheeled vehicles will be allowed to operate in one direction only on two road sections within the Bhaktapur municipal area. The Bhaktapur Municipality has decided to implement this from Saturday.

Arrangements have been made to operate from Bhaktapur-4 Bolachha to Ram Mandir Pulpari from 7 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm only from the old city area towards Suryabinayak. Vehicles will be operated from Ward No. 3 Barahi Pulpari to Vansagopal Chowk from 7 am to 10 am and from 3 pm to 7 pm from the expanded city area towards Vansagopal.

Mayor Sunil Prajapati informed that the arrangement for two-wheeled vehicles to move freely from both directions as in the past will remain the same. The decision to make the road one-way was made after the traffic pressure in the area increased during office hours and caused problems in traffic, said Mayor Prajapati. 'Since it is a tourist city, we will gradually manage the traffic in the city area,' he said.

Even before the 2072 BS earthquake, four-wheeled vehicles were restricted to one-way traffic in these areas. The municipality has been prohibiting horse-drawn carriages from entering the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, while vehicles have been allowed to enter the five-story temple complex only in the morning and evening, and entry has been prohibited throughout the day.
