The number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Bhaktapur to visit the World Heritage Site has increased.

The old city of Bhaktapur, which is a living museum of history, has seen an increase in activity due to domestic and foreign tourists visiting its monasteries, art, culture, lifestyle and heritage. Bhaktapur Municipality has stated that 19,318 tourists from different countries have visited Bhaktapur in the first three months of this fiscal year alone. An average of 950 foreign tourists visit Bhaktapur daily. Mayor Sunil Prajapati said that the number of tourists visiting daily has increased as it is the tourist season now. 

According to the Tourism Information Center of Bhaktapur Municipality, 5,718 foreign tourists have visited Bhaktapur in just 6 days of this month. The center has given data that 244,868 foreign tourists visited the World Heritage Site in the last fiscal year alone.

The main source of income of Bhaktapur Municipality is tourism fees. Mayor Prajapati said that the municipality collects entry fees from 14 different tourism service centers from foreign tourists visiting here. Mayor Prajapati said that the entry fee is Rs 500 per person from SAARC and Chinese tourists and Rs 2,000 per person from non-SAARC tourists. According to Mayor Prajapati, the tourist fee is used for the preservation and reconstruction of the city's heritage, cultural dance and music training, city cleanliness, honoring cultural gurus, building traditional houses, 35 percent or more subsidy of up to Rs 300,000 to homeowners, education, health and development. 

The municipality collected Rs 274.4 million in revenue from tourist entry fees alone in the last fiscal year alone. Many tourists come to Bhaktapur from the US, Germany, France, Britain, India and China.
