Kathmandu Metropolitan City has banned the sale and distribution of flower garlands imported from abroad during Tihar. The Metropolitan Police Force held a press conference here today and informed that it has decided to ban flower garlands imported from abroad to encourage Nepali farmers.
In a press conference, Metropolitan Police Force Chief, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajunath Pandey informed that the metropolis has set up flower sales centers at 32 locations from October 1 to 6 in order to increase the use of domestically produced flowers.
'Our aim is to ban the sale of flowers imported illegally from abroad and to increase the use of flowers produced in the country, the flowers coming illegally from abroad will be confiscated by the Metropolitan Municipality,' he said.
The Metropolitan Corporation will distribute from NV Center in Nayabaneshwar, Kathmandu, Bigmart in Shankhamul, Iplex Mall in Naya Baneshwar, Salesberry in Madhyabaneshwar, Phonex Tower in Battisputli, Tinkunechour, Sifal Chowr, AC Complex in Chabhil, Chabhil Ganeshsthan, KL Tower, Chabhil Centre, Swayambhuchakra Park, Kalimati Dharma Bangwet, Kalimati Dhaukhel.
Similarly, Bhatbhateni in Kalanki, Valley Coldstores in Nayabazaar, Buddhamal in Machhapokhari, Nayabuspark bridge, Ganesha Mandir in Handigaon, Koiralamart in Samakhushi, Salesberry in Maharajganj, Bigmart in Gongbu, Bigmart in Baluwatar, Star Mall in Putlisadak, Bhatbhateni in Anamnagar, Kathmandu Mall in Sundhara, Old Buspark, Putlisadak Metropolitan Police Chief Pandey said that sales will be made from Newplaza and other locations.
On that occasion, Krishnaman Shrestha, chairman of the Agriculture, Forestry and Herbs Committee of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, said that Nepali flowers have been being encouraged in coordination with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City for the past three years with the main objective of using indigenous flowers in the country.
Nepal Floriculture Association President Rajesh Bhakta Shrestha said that the association will support the implementation of the policy taken by the metropolis to make the farmers and the state prosperous.
Association informed that they are going to organize the 18th Godavari Flower Competition from October 29 to October 2 to encourage Nepali flowers. The association has estimated that 4 million garlands will be consumed in Kathmandu Valley for Tihar. The association said that the flowers produced in Nepal can support the market of Nepal.
