Melamchi water in the last week of October in Kathmandu

Melamchi water will arrive in Kathmandu valley only in the last week of October this year. Jagannath Das, executive director of the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee, informed that due to the increase in water flow in Melamchi due to rain, Melamchi water cannot be brought to Kathmandu before Dasain.

'The flow of water has not decreased. There are preparations to bring water after the flow subsides,' he said.  After the headworks of the project were completely damaged by the flood and landslide in the Melamchi River on 1st June 2078, since then the water of Melamchi has been distributed in the valley only in winter. He says that it has been a problem to send water from Melamchi to Kathmandu Valley since it started raining heavily every day.

About 17 to 180 million liters of water from Melamchi daily  Although it is being diverted to Kathmandu, Executive Director Das said that after Melamchi's spring was closed due to floods, now 6 to 70 million liters of water is being diverted from Riberma river and distributed in Kathmandu daily.

On 15th Chait 2078, 170 million liters of water has been distributed daily in Kathmandu valley according to its full capacity. However, after severe floods in Melamchi and Indravati in June and July 2078 caused great damage to the project, water has not been brought for twelve months.

According to Ashok Kumar Poudel, executive director of Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Limited (KUKL), there is a daily demand of 430 million liters of water in the valley. He informed that only 13 to 140 million liters of water was supplied to the valley daily from various sources when Melamchi water supply was closed.
