As Navratri approaches, Shaktipeeth of Kathmandu valley has started to be decorated. Naxal Bhagwati, Maitidevi, Kalikasthan, Sobhabhagwati, Raktakali, Shwetkali, Bijeshwari, Chamundamai and other Shaktipeeths of Kathmandu valley are decorated with flickering lights.
These have been decorated in the temple area since a week ago. The nine nights from Ashwin Shukla Pratipada to Ashwin Shukla Navami are called 'Navratra'. During Navratri, there is a throng of devotees in Shaktipeeth all over the country including Kathmandu Valley.
Dal Bahadur Karki, the ward president of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-30, who is also the chairman of the temple area management committee, said that all preparations for Navratri have been completed in Maiti Devi temple area. On the occasion of Navratri, there is a religious belief that one's wishes will be fulfilled if one goes to the Shaktipeeth and offers worship and darshan.
On this occasion, Navadurga is worshiped by placing a jamara with Ghatasthapana and Durga Saptashati (Chandi), Sri Maddevi Bhagwat and other goddess stotras are recited. This year's Navratri is starting from Monday, October 6. It is mentioned in the calendar approved by the Nepal Panchang Judiciary Development Committee that Navratri is till Wednesday, October 15th.
Throughout Navratri, the offerings of the worshiped goddess are accepted from Vijayadashami on the 16th of Asoj to the day of Ashwin Shukla Purnima. From the day of Vijayadashami, there is a tradition of giving tika, prasad and blessings to the dignitaries.
