As the festival approaches, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has intensified market monitoring. After finding inedible substances in the alcoholic drink called 'Mustang Gold' produced by Dhanusha Distillery Pvt.

Nurnidhi Nyupane, the head of Agriculture and Livestock Department of Kampa, informed that the fine was paid as action after shrimps were found in the wine which was being sold and distributed in the market under a sealed condition. According to

chief Newpane, the metropolis had monitored based on the complaints made by the consumers.  The department collected samples of the liquor and examined it. After it was confirmed that inedible items were found inside the sealed bottles during the inspection, action was taken and fined according to the Market Management and Monitoring Act, 2075.    According to the

department, after depositing the fine amount in the revenue account of Kampa, the information should be submitted to the department. The metropolis has also stated that it has adopted a policy of regular monitoring and strict action to ensure the quality of food and beverages sold in the market. 

Similarly, while monitoring food in Basantpur and Indrachowk, the metropolis destroyed 31 liters of inedible oil. Four restaurants and one sweet shop in Basantpur and Indrachowk areas under Ward No. 23 and 24 were destroyed after finding inedible oil. The team advised the businessmen to maintain food hygiene, pay attention to cleanliness, avoid frequent use of cooking oil, store vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items separately. Instructions have also been given.  

Department has committed to continue such monitoring activities by keeping consumer health and food safety as the first priority, and has also instructed all businessmen to be responsible for maintaining food hygiene and quality.
