Legend has it that Yahmari was originally cooked in Panauti of Kavre district. It is mentioned in the legend that a farmer couple made it using the rice flour and a knife they had at home to feed their son-in-law who had arrived from Kathmandu, and because he liked the roti, the Newars started calling it 'favorite roti'.
