The entertainment businessmen of Kathmandu have organized for their rights, interests and safety. The national meeting held on herbs has formed a working committee under the chairmanship of singer and businessman Uma Shrestha.
Dinesh Thapa is the senior vice president of the newly formed committee, Sushil Budhathoki, Sujan Shrestha, Prahlad Chaulagain and Rajkumar Karki are vice presidents. Sagun Adhikari as General Secretary, Prajwal Khadka as Deputy General Secretary, Amrit Khati as Secretary, Dev Lama as Joint Secretary, Santosh Lama as Treasurer and Yunisa Regmi as Joint Treasurer were unanimously elected. Working committee members include Kumar Adhikari, Hom Bahadur Karki, Roshan Budhathoki, Subas Adhikari, Vijay Lama, Parvati Thapa, Ram Kumar Budhathoki, Raj Subedi, Geeta Phuyal Karki and Pasang Lama.
The gathering held under the chief hospitality of Defense Minister Manvir Rai aims to make the night entertainment business dignified and orderly. President Shrestha said that they are organized to manage the business. ``The entertainment sector is a powerful tool for social change, it is a big industry of employment, it is the backbone of tourism development,'' she said, ``Therefore, not only Thamel and Durbarmarg, but the whole of Kathmandu should be allowed to operate 24 hours.'' The businessmen complained that the police sometimes disturb the night business and asked them to arrange it.
Defense Minister Rai said that he loves art and artists very much and hoped that the entertainment business will play an important role in producing artists.
The newly elected General Secretary Sagun Adhikari said that there is a plan to expand the foundation nationwide. Similarly, Vice President Sujan Shrestha informed that a separate sub-committee of artists is being prepared to solve the problem of artist's salary and security. In the
program, businessmen including Bagmati Provincial Assembly member and former minister Yuvraj Dulal gave their views.
