Bhaktapur-Nagarkot road, which is the main route to Nagarkot, a major tourist destination of Bhaktapur, has been started by Changunarayan municipality to rebuild and upgrade it. Changunarayan Municipality has started the project since last April targeting the Nagarkot tour year-2082. The municipality has started the Bhaktapur-Nagarkot road upgrading work to be managed from its internal resources.
For road construction, the municipality has started the upgrading and reconstruction of the 15 km road section up to Bhaktapur Nagarkot through its own internal resources and signed a contract for 17 crores.
With the loan support of Exim Bank India, a contract of Rs. 27 crore was signed by Shailung Construction and the Indian company Aravli Infrapower Limited on June 22, 2071 to be completed by 3 June 2073 with the Government of Nepal.
After extending the deadline for the 10th time in 11 years and increasing the cost to 31 million rupees, the Road Improvement and Development Project Directorate decided to cancel the contract agreement of the road after the road construction was not completed on various pretexts.
Mayor Khatri said, 'Nagarkot visit year organized by Changunarayan Municipality is a festival not only of Nagarkot but of the whole country, the road should not be allowed to cause problems in the festival. I have made a commitment to the people, in order to fulfill that commitment, the municipality has signed a contract to upgrade the road and now we have started the work of laying the base for asphalt pitch (black paper).'
He said that the Bhaktapur-Nagarkot road needs to be upgraded to complete the road because the government has not completed the contract for 11 years. Mayor Khatri said that after the central government said that there is no budget this year to re-upgrade this road and it will take a long time to complete the process, the municipality is going to blacklist it.
He said, "We have started the work after discussing with the relevant ministry and the road department. We will repair potholes and upgrade the road to make it easier for the tourists coming to Nagarkot. We will make a black sheet. It has been discussed that the central government will do the construction of the belt, drain and other works. That is why we have entered into a contract for the black sheet."
He said that the municipality has already started the construction of road markings from Nagarkot and that all the construction of the road will be completed within a month
