The media world will continue fearlessly to fully use and protect the rights granted by the constitution: President Paudel

President Ramchandra Paudel has expressed his belief that he will continue fearlessly to protect and fully use the rights granted by the constitution in the world of communication.

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day (May 3), President Paudel expressed his hope that all the three organs of the state will be able to carry out their work carefully and vigilantly and that they will succeed in conveying true information to the public.

It is said in his message, 'We all know the fact that the Nepali press world played an important role in the end of autocratic rule and the establishment of a federal democratic republic. Democracy is a necessary condition for free and fair journalism. Freedom of press and expression is the cornerstone of democracy. That's why the Nepali press has made a great contribution to the movements for democracy.

Press freedom is not only for the press but also essential to implement the constitutional right of citizens to be well informed and it helps to make the governance system transparent and accountable.

'The more neutral, independent and strong the press is, the stronger the democratic system becomes, it is the responsibility of all of us to create the necessary environment for this. Our constitution guarantees complete freedom of press and expression. Freedom of the press in the true sense is to be involved in the process of information collection to the flow of it,'' President Paudel's message says, 'The practice of journalism based on pluralism establishes easy access for all citizens to all types of news and the voice of all classes and communities is voiced through the media.' He emphasized that independent journalism should work harder to establish correct and true things in the society by investigating the truth and communicating the facts.

The growing use of social media and some false and misleading information that can flow through it can mislead the citizens and weaken the overall system.

'Today, we have achieved a federal democratic republic through the great sacrifice, struggle and sacrifice of the people. Our long political struggle has been completed and now the country has moved forward on the road to prosperity through economic transformation. Keeping this need of the country in mind, I expect that the Nepali press will continue to focus on it', President Paudel said in his message, 'With full confidence that the Nepali media world will continue fearlessly to protect the rights granted by the constitution, I would like to wish success to the three organs of the state to carry out their work carefully and vigilantly and to convey true information to the public.'
