Although women's rights are guaranteed in the constitution, stakeholders have said that they have not been implemented in practice. Although more than 50 percent of women in the country are women, the constitution has given only 33 percent of rights to women, but the same provision has not been implemented in practice, he said.
At the 34th anniversary special ceremony held by the Women's Rehabilitation Center (OREC) in Kathmandu on Friday, the speakers said that with the full implementation of the constitution, there is a need to fight for equal rights for women. In the
program, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Navalkishore Shah Sudi said that the government is aware that women are not getting the rights guaranteed in the constitution. He said that even though 51 percent of the population is women, they are still deprived of rights and rights. Women have not received the rights written in the constitution. Before and after the constitution of 2072, there has been a lot of difference in women's awareness and access. Women have become alert and aware. "Women should fight for their rights," he said.
He said that even now the statement that women have not got anything is wrong. "Wherever you look, the participation of women has increased. Representation has increased. There has also been development in capacity,' he said, 'the situation of yesterday is no more. Therefore, the movement should be taken to a new height by thinking in a new way. Now women who are more than 50 percent of the population will not ask for 33 percent rights, they will take them away.'
Chairman of the National Dalit Commission Devraj Bishwakarma suggested that policies, laws and programs should be made keeping in mind the situation of women from different sectors, classes and communities, saying that there is a multifaceted situation among women as well. He said that Orec has done significant work in the field of women's rights in its three-decade long journey and wished for more progress in the future.
Renu Adhikari, the founding president of OREC, said that OREC will continue to work until the roots of discrimination buried in the society are removed. She said, "The roots of discrimination in the society have been badly buried. One has worked with different sections of the society. We are not competitors, we are the helpers of the government."
Orek, which celebrated its anniversary with the slogan 'art for resistance against structural discrimination', performed a rap covering the works so far, while poet Navraj Parajuli and dozens of other artists gave an awareness presentation.
