Fair at Sapantirtha of Tokha: Crowd of devotees from morning

The Sapantirtha fair in Tokha, the northern region of Kathmandu, has started. Devotees who worship and bathe in the tank at Sapanatirtha Temple in Tokha Municipality-2 have been thronging since this morning.

Every year on the 1st of Baisakh, the Sapantirtha Mela is crowded with pilgrims inside and outside the Kathmandu Valley. Dharmendra Shrestha, chairman of Tokha Ward No. 2, informed that thousands of devotees have filled the fair since morning in the one-day fair.

There is a religious belief that reciting prayers and bathing in the Sapantirtha temple will lead to children and wealth. As everything that is mentioned in a dream is fulfilled, people visit and bathe in that temple. Even though Sapanatirtha Mela will last only one day in Tokha today, Khat Jatra (Sindoor Jatra) will be held for three days from Baisakh 2nd to 4th. This Jatra is considered as a special festival celebration of Tokha.

This festival is celebrated with great fanfare in the original tune of Bajagaza with brotherhood and harmony and politeness. This Jatra is considered as a symbol of unity of Tokhavasi.
