Kathmandu Metropolitan City has put into operation the branch office building of Judh Waruna Yantra with a storage capacity of 100,000 liters along with the entrance gate of Balaju Industrial Area.
Head of Disaster Management Department Jagdish Aryal informed that the building with 80,000 liters on the ground floor and 20,000 liters on the roof has a storage capacity of 100,000 liters.
According to Chief Aryal, the period of construction of the foundation stone building on 18 January 2080 was until the middle of February 2081. On the 26th of November 2079, on the occasion of the 28th Metropolitan Day, the fire service was started from this place. Among regional disasters, fire has become a major problem for Kathmandu.
Due to uncontrolled urban development, it is not possible to take fire engines to control fires in all parts of the city. The Metropolitan Corporation also says that preparations are being made to purchase three fire engines for the fire station. There is a plan to purchase small fire engines for those places where big fire engines cannot go.
Lately, Kampa has been rapidly progressing the installation of fire dryers to control fires in small streets. The Metropolitan Municipality has started installing 'dry risers' in narrow streets and alleys where the fire brigade cannot go in case of fire.
The disaster management department of the metropolis has rapidly advanced this work, while the wards are also installing this system from the budget of the wards where it is not in the central plan. City Police Superintendent Bishnu Prasad Joshi informed that ``Dry Riser'' has been installed in 6, 7, 9, 13, 17, 18, 21, 25 and 27 of Kampa, but the technology is being installed in other wards as per requirement.
According to him, some of Kampa's inner streets are inaccessible for fire engines and ambulances. This technology has been installed because it is difficult to control when there is a fire or other disaster in the narrow street.
