In Kathmandu Metropolitan City, compared to the last financial year, the incidence of tree felling and water-related disasters has increased this year. According to Kampa, there were 234 disaster incidents till the end of January this year.

According to Bishnu Prasad Joshi, City Police Superintendent of Kampa Disaster Management Department, till the end of December of the current year, 77 incidents occurred due to tree felling and 50 due to water-borne disasters.

Bishnu Prasad Joshi informed that there were 59 fire incidents due to electricity, 2 due to cooking gas and 12 other incidents. According to him, there are more incidents of fire on light poles in Kampa area.

According to Joshi, the incident of accidents caused by trees has increased because the work of planting trees on the roadside is continuing and there is no management of old trees. He informed that Kampa is working on the management of old trees to reduce such incidents.

In the last financial year, there were only 431 incidents of various types of disasters. According to Kampa, the incidents of fire on light poles are caused by cables placed in a disorderly manner by various internet service providers.

In the same way, the use of dilapidated gas cylinders for cooking, regular testing of gas pipes and regulators and not replacing them annually have not led to a reduction in the incidence of fire-related disasters, according to Superintendent Joshi.

As the incidents of disasters started to increase, KAMPA started conducting artificial control exercises and public awareness programs for the general public. As part of the artificial exercise, it is informing on topics such as how to put out a fire safely, how to take the injured to the hospital immediately in the event of a road accident.

Kampa has rapidly advanced the work of installing dry risers in narrow roads and alleys where the fire brigade cannot go in case of fire.

Ward No. 6, 7, 9, 13, 17, 18, 21, 25 and 27 dry risers have been installed in Kampa, while the technology is being installed in other wards as required.
