Six hundred and nine weeks after the start of the Bagmati clean-up campaign, campaign workers have started gathering for cleaning under the leadership of the local government.
The cleanup led by Kathmandu Metropolitan City-8 is focused on Pashupati area. Campaigner Kishore Singh Shahi said that seven metric tons of garbage was managed from the cleaning done at various places in Pashupati area. The garbage collected during the cleaning has been managed by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Environment Department.
Former chief secretary and cleanliness campaigner Leelamani Paudyal, project head of the Empowered Oratory Civilization Integrated Development Committee Narayan Bhandari, ward president of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-8 Ashaman Sangat, president of ward no. 11 Hiralal Tandukar and other people's representatives and campaigners were active in the cleanup.
The cleaning campaign that started on 5th June 2070 is held every Saturday morning for two hours at Bagmati beach. In a meeting held last Wednesday in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-11 with the participation of ward presidents of 10 wards of Bagmati Touche Metropolitan City, it was agreed that the ward will take responsibility for cleaning.
