Home Minister Sudan Gurung has created a stir in the security forces after he conducted random inspections at various border posts in Bara and Parsa without informing the security forces.

He arrived in Pathlaiya at around 9 pm on Friday night from Chitwan, the venue of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party's general convention, and from there he reached Badharwa in Jitpur Simara Sub-metropolitan City via Piluwa on the East-West Highway. From there, he reached Simara. During that time, he also spoke to some locals.

After staying at a simple hotel in Simara on Friday night, he monitored the auxiliary border posts in Birgunj on Saturday. He reached the Alau and Pantokka border posts, which are known to be the most smuggling points from Birgunj, and he spoke directly to the locals.

A video of him conducting random inspections with his PSO in a private vehicle throughout the day on Saturday without coordinating with the local security forces in Parsa and Bara has been made public on social media. During this, he changed 5 vehicles and did not coordinate with the local security chief and the chief district officer. The local security body was 'trashing' his journey through CCTV cameras installed on roads and public places. Even his PSO's mobile was off.

Home Minister Gurung, who was wearing a cap, mask and dark glasses, was wearing a T-shirt and half pants. In the border area, he had taken detailed information from the locals about the smuggling methods, especially on bicycles, motorcycles and people carrying them on their heads. In the process, the locals informed Home Minister Gurung that smuggling was taking place in broad daylight with the connivance and protection of the security personnel.

In the video, locals can be heard complaining to the Home Minister about smuggling being carried out under the guise of CCTV cameras installed at the border. After hearing the complaints of the locals, Home Minister Gurung asked, 'Where is the CCTV camera monitored?' In response, the locals are heard in the video saying that the District Administration Office will monitor it.

After sporadic monitoring of the checkpoints throughout the day on Saturday, he reached Kathmandu via Simara on the last flight at 5:30 pm. At Simara airport, he called the Chief District Officers of Parsa and Bara, the Superintendents of Nepal and the Armed Police and gave strict instructions to control smuggling from the border.

Even though the government has strictly prohibited the general public from purchasing goods worth more than Rs 100 at customs points, the border residents of Parsa and Bara have been expressing their complaints on social media that smuggling from the border is going on unhindered. There is widespread dissatisfaction among the locals regarding smuggling. Locals have also alleged that such organized smuggling is not possible without the consent and collusion of the security forces in the district.
