A clash broke out between police and locals on Wednesday night while trying to take control of the pumpkin seeds hidden near the Nepal-India border in Bankul Tole, Boudhimai Municipality-7, Rautahat. Police fired six rounds of tear gas to control the situation, said DSP Basanta Gautam of the District Police. Six people, including three security personnel, were injured in the clash.
Police said the clash broke out after locals obstructed them while trying to take control of the pumpkin seeds that were illegally brought from India and hidden behind a mosque in Bankul Tole.
According to DSP Gautam, 40-year-old Sudama Devi Raya, 40-year-old Hira Motiya Devi Yadav, and 45-year-old Jayalal Thakur, a barber, of Boudhimai-7, were injured in the clash. Senior Constable Gajendra Yadav and Assistant Constables Samjhana Chaudhary and Devraj Mahato were injured on the police side during the clash, according to the District Police.
The injured security personnel are being treated at the Provincial Hospital in Gaur and the locals are being treated at Chandrajyoti Kanti Hospital in Bankul.
