Stakeholders have said that caste discrimination and untouchability prevalent in society have not been able to end due to the neglect of people's representatives and the state machinery. Most of the speakers at the program organized at Golbazar on Thursday on the problems faced by the Madhesi Dalit community and the role of stakeholders in solving them said this.
The speakers said that after the leaders who seek votes during elections on the issues of the Dalit community come to power, the issues of the Dalit community are forgotten and that the state machinery is not serious about it, caste discrimination and untouchability persist. 'When there is discrimination against Dalits, neither the police administration takes it seriously, nor do the people's representatives show interest,' said Suresh Kumar Mandal, secretary of JSP Nepal, who is also a former state minister of Madhesh Province. 'This is the main problem.'
Secretary Mandal said that caste discrimination and untouchability have not been eliminated due to the politics being carried out in the name of religion in the country. She said that political practices carried out in the name of religion and caste have promoted social division.
Similarly, Madhesh Provincial Assembly member Sanjila Yadav said that all parties should be responsible and sensitive to end caste discrimination and untouchability in the society. Stating that the Dalit community is still facing various types of social, economic and political discrimination, she stressed that the state, political parties and civil society should play an effective role to ensure their rights.
Bishnupur Rural Municipality Chairman Satyanarayan Yadav, Karjanha Municipality Deputy Chief Laxmi Kumari Shrestha, Dalit leader Sanjay Mahara and locals also participated in the program.
