Two Nepali girls who were kept in a child protection home in Bihar, India have been rescued and brought to Nepal. Maiti Nepal Birgunj Temporary Home has stated that it has initiated the process of returning them to their home country and handing them over to their families.
According to Home Chief Goma Poudel, a 17-year-old girl from Aurahi Municipality-2, Mahottari, who is a resident of the Child Home (Girls) Unit, Bhaisakhal, Siwan, Bihar, India, and a 16-year-old girl from Jitpursimara Sub-metropolitan City-18, Bara, have been brought to Birgunj on the orders of the Child Welfare Committee in Bihar, India and in coordination with the Nepali Embassy, New Delhi.
Both the girls had left home at different times and reached India about a year ago under the influence of friends. The girl from Mahottari had reached Chhapra, India, after being lured by a girl she met while working in a parlor in Janakpur. She was promised that she would visit religious places and get a good-paying job.
Similarly, a girl from Bara had reached Chhapra, Bihar, India with a friend from her village. While working in a hotel, she had reached there after another girl offered her to dance at weddings and music events, saying that it would earn her more money. Both the girls were under the surveillance of the Indian police after they reached a place involved in activities related to the dance group 'Orchestra', which is illegally operating in India.
Meanwhile, the Birgunj branch of Maiti Nepal Temporary Home has rescued 9 people from India in the current financial year. Of the rescued, 2 were brought from Raxaul and 7 from Chhapra and Siwan areas.
According to the organization, 121 people who were at risk in the border area have been rescued during this period. Of these, 37 were under the age of 18 and 84 were adults. It has been stated that 179 people were provided shelter in the temporary home throughout the year and all of them were reunited with their families. Five people have been sent to other institutions, while two are currently in foster care.
The organization has supported the registration process of three cases related to human trafficking and smuggling and two cases related to rape in the current fiscal year. During this period, 17,090 vehicles were monitored and checked, and 1,290 people have benefited through various awareness programs.
Similarly, the organization has provided legal advice to 27 people and general health care services to 11 people. The organization has stated that out of 18 applications for search and rescue, the status of 12 people has been ascertained and necessary assistance has been provided in 6 cases related to domestic violence.
