Amid renewed tension in Siraha Jail, police have taken 23 prisoners into custody. The police took 23 prisoners into custody on Tuesday after they were arguing in the jail.

They are currently being held in the custody of the District Police Office, Siraha. Siraha Chief District Officer Surendra Poudel said that it has not been decided where to send them now.

'They are currently in police custody, we have sought permission from the department to send them to which jail,' he said, 'We will send them elsewhere as per the instructions from the department.'

The latest dispute in Siraha Jail has been going on since last Saturday. Two days ago, during a dispute, a group inside the jail had thrown two people, including watchman Prem Chaudhary, out of the jail, accusing them of irregularities and extortion.

The police later tried to send them inside the jail but failed and sent them to the Udayapur-based jail. Poudel said that those involved in the latest dispute were identified and taken into custody today.

There have been repeated disputes in Siraha Prison due to managerial weaknesses. Earlier, on Magh 26, during a dispute, a Katuwa pistol and two rounds of bullets were recovered from inside the prison during an operation conducted by the security forces.

The police had also taken into custody 13 people, including Naike Indrajit Yadav, and shifted them to other prisons. After that, the tension created in the prison by Indrajit's supporters was brought under control within three days.
